Nearly 50 Years in the Making

What started as a four-person Dutch import operation is now one of North America's most sophisticated high-performance door and loading dock manufacturers — and it all began in Pittsburgh.

The 1980s were a decade of rapid-fire innovation. High-speed doors hit the market, followed by the Flexidock® line of mechanical and hydraulic dock levelers in 1985, inspired by a Canadian design. Then came the breakthrough: the Speed-Master® Series in 1989 — a legendary high-speed roll-up door that redefined the high-performance door market with its sectional panel, direct-drive, non-counterbalance design. The willingness to build custom "specials" built a reputation for quality and dependability competitors couldn't touch.

On September 23, 2007, The Hörmann Group acquired Flexon, Inc. — and the trajectory accelerated. Now operating as Hörmann Flexon LLC, the company moved into a purpose-built 68,000 sq. ft. facility in Burgettstown, PA in 2013, then expanded to 288,000 sq. ft. in 2017. When Hörmann was ready to bring loading dock technology and traffic door manufacturing back into focus, a dedicated facility just minutes away in Imperial was the obvious next step.

The Products

HLS Hydraulic Dock Levelers

The HLS is built on a simple principle: no shortcuts. A single-piece S235 steel platform — available up to 6' x 10' — features reinforcement beams that prevent deformation and exceed ANSI-MH-30-1-2022 standards. The ½" S355 tread-plated steel lip is secured by S420 high-strength weldable steel hinges — material choices engineered for longevity, not just minimum compliance. Rated for 35,000 lbs across a temperature range of 14°F to +122°F, a dual-cylinder hydraulic system ensures balanced operation and prevents platform tilt during an emergency stop.

Mechanical Edge of Dock Leveler – MRS-V

Built tough, designed smart. A gas spring-assisted control bar raises the deck plate and lip with minimal effort — reducing physical strain and keeping dock attendants safer. No pit, no concrete work — just weld it to the front of the dock and go.

Material choices are deliberate throughout: a 0.25" anti-slip S235 steel platform, a ½" S355 anti-slip steel hinged lip, and 32 closely-spaced hinge strips across a standard 78" width for rigidity that outperforms traditional hinge bushings. The open hinge construction sheds dirt instead of trapping it, and the lip angle ensures consistent, reliable contact with the loading surface. Rated to 35,000 lbs static load capacity and ANSI MH30.1-2022 compliant.

HR Vehicle Restraint

The Model HR secures the trailer's rear impact guard (RIG) to prevent premature departure and trailer movement during loading and unloading. The spring-loaded housing automatically adjusts with trailer float, and the patented Triple Range Hook outperforms competing hook-style restraints.

Dock Lights

Maximum illumination, instantly — using 80% less energy than traditional incandescent bulbs. The heavy-duty polycarbonate head stays cool to the touch and stands up to the demands of an active loading dock.

Stop & Go Communication System

Clear visual go/no-go signals for both truck drivers and dock personnel. Integrated with loading dock equipment, the system delivers real-time safety status at a glance — cutting miscommunication and risk where it matters most.
