Description

This course provides architects and building professionals with the tools to specify and integrate commercial and residential sectional doors that meet project performance, aesthetic, and safety goals. Participants will explore door types, material options, energy performance factors, and code compliance considerations. The course also examines how doors contribute to occupant welfare, fire safety, thermal envelope performance, and long-term building durability, supported by real-world case studies.

Prerequisite Knowledge

None. No advance preparation required.

Door selection and specification play a critical role in supporting occupant health, building envelope integrity, and user safety. Key considerations include energy conservation through insulated door assemblies, life safety through fire-rated systems, and welfare through secure and accessible entry solutions. These strategies contribute to environments that prioritize occupant protection, long-term material performance, and adherence to building codes. 

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, the design professional will be able to:

1. Identify the core components and operating characteristics of commercial and residential sectional door types.
2. Evaluate performance factors such as insulation (R-value), wind load, and impact resistance for diverse project requirements.
